Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, the anti-apartheid activist and ex-wife of late Nelson Mandela is dead. She died at Netcare Milpark hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday, April 2, 2018 surrounded by her family after a long illness. Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was imprisoned several times for her role in the fight against apartheid and she also campaigned for her former husband’s (Nelson Mandela) freedom. Madikizela-Mandela was married to Nelson Mandela (who died in 2013) from 1958 to 1996. They (Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela) divorced in 1996 and they had two children together. May her soul rest in peace.
