Malaysian police were on Saturday, March 24, 2018 arrested seven men suspected of having links with the Islamic State group. The suspects were accused of planning attacks on non-Muslim places of worship and other targets in the country. According to the statement made by Mohamad Fuzi Harun (Inspector-General of Police), the six men (Malaysians) were arrested in Johor state (north of Singapore), while the seventh suspect who is a Filipino member of the IS-linked Abu Sayyaf group was arrested in the eastern state of Sabah. Malaysia has been on high alert since January 2016 when gunmen linked to Islamic State carried series of attacks in Jakarta (Indonesia). In June 2016, Malaysia experienced first attack when a grenade exploded in a bar, outskirts of Kuala Lumpur which the Islamic state group claimed responsibility for.
