The Swiss pharmaceutical manufacturer Lonza Group AG is planning to buy the United States capsule maker and other drug delivery systems (Capsugel) for $5.5 billion in cash. The information was announced by Lonza Chief Executive Richard Ridinger on Thursday, December 15, 2016 and the deal includes refinancing of existing Capsugel debt of about $2 billion. Capsugel which is based in Morristown (New Jersey) manufactures empty two-piece hard capsules and finished dosage forms for drug delivery. The company serves over 4,000 corporate customers in more than 100 countries and it employs not less than 3,600 people across 13 facilities on three continents.
