Youssef Chahed, the Tunisia’s new Prime Minister was sworn in along with his 26 cabinet members at Carthage Palace near the capital Tunis on Saturday, August 27th. Youssef Chahed who is 40 years old is the Tunisia’s youngest prime minister since the country got her independence from France in 1956. He succeeds the former prime minister, Habib Essid whom the lawmakers passed a vote of no confidence to his government after being in office for 18 months and earlier this month, Beji Caid Essebsi (Tunisia president) appointed Youssef Chahed as the country’s prime minister. Chahed who is a member of Nidaa Tounes party is Tunisia seventh prime minister in less than six years since the 2011 uprising which removed dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali from government. Youssef Chahed served as a local affairs minister before his nomination.
