Ivory Coast ex-president Laurent Gbagbo could return to his country after the International Criminal Court (ICC) upheld his acquittal on Wednesday, 31 March and ordered all conditions of his release be removed. Ex-president Laurent Gbagbo of Ivory Coast and Charles Ble Goude (former youth leader) were held on charges of crimes against humanity during post-election violence in Ivory Coast. Mr Gbagbo was Ivory Coast president from 2000 until his arrest in 2011 after he refused to concede defeat to President Alassane Ouattara. Later that year, a civil war erupted which killed 3,000 people in Ivory Coast.
