Viewers Corner’s correspondent in Luanda (Angola) was informed that President Jose Eduardo dos Santos of Angola announced recently to the congress of the ruling party, People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) in his country that he will step down in 2018. We (Viewers Corner) are asking if President Jose Eduardo dos Santos of Angola is for real this time because in 2001, the same man (Jose Eduardo dos Santos) promised that he would not seek political office again only to turn around and vie for the presidential election which he automatically installed himself as Angola President. Again, President Jose Eduardo dos Santos of Angola is Africa’s second longest-serving leader (assumed office on September 21, 1979) while Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea is the longest in Africa having stayed in office as Equatorial Guinea President since August 3, 1979.
Viewers Corner is appealing to African leaders to respect the constitutions of their various countries and start practising true democracy. We pray and hope that this time, President Jose Eduardo dos Santos will be a good patriotic and keep to his words.
