Viewers Corner News correspondent learned that Marjan Sarec, the Slovenian prime minister has resigned on Monday, 27 January. Mr Marjan Sarec called for an early election, said that his minority party could not push through important legislation in the parliament. Dejan Zidan, the speaker of the parliament said that an election could be held in April 2020. The governing coalition of five center-left parties which took power in September 2018 held only 43 out of 90 seats in the parliament and it was difficult to get bills through after losing the support of the opposition Left Party in November 2019. Mr Marjan Sarec said during a news conference that the situation in the parliament made it difficult to fulfill the expectations of the people, hence his resignation. It was reported that the country’s Finance Minister, Andrej Bertoncelj has also resigned.
