Viewers Corner News team have been speaking against death sentence as a means of punishment to anyone that is alleged to have committed a serious crime as the case may be. We (Viewers Corner News team) suggested that it should be life jail rather than killing the said individual because it has always been proven that most people executed were not the real culprits. For instance, a Chinese man named Zeng Aiyun who has been on death row for about 11 years was freed recently, the first and second court in China found him guilty and convicted him to death for killing a fellow student while another accomplice named Chen Huazhang was also jailed for the same case.
The case was reopened, it was then that Zeng Aiyun was found innocent in July by Xiangtan Intermediate People’s Court for lack of evidence at his fourth trial. Chen Huazhang was found guilty by the court for killing the student and blamed it on Zeng Aiyun out of jealousy. This incident happened in 2004 and the trial was conducted in 2005 and 2010. The question now is assuming Zeng Aiyun was killed as ordered by the first and second court without a retrial, that means he would have been killed just like that and this would also be a terrible waste for the family of Zeng Aiyun which is very wrong. Zeng Aiyun was awarded 1.27 million yuan ($196,000) as compensation for the number of years he spent on death row. Again, no matter the amount of money one gets on the process, it can never be enough. What about the trauma this man went through on daily basis knowing fully well that someday he would be killed just like that by the authority? This is very wrong and not justified. No one has the right to kill anyone because that life you want to terminate by force is created by God Almighty, therefore it is a sin against Almighty God. Instead of death sentence, let it be life jail, this is more appropriate.
However, Viewers Corner News would continue to plead with all the countries across the world that are in this category to reconsider their action and see if they could amend the law of their various countries that permits them to carry out death sentence as a means of punishment for a serious crime committed by an individual.
