According to the information, the peace talk officially started on Monday, 14 October 2019 in Juba (South Sudan’s capital) and President Salva Kiir of South Sudan is hosting the peace talk. Sudanese transitional government needs to end war with the rebel groups in order to revive its economy by reducing military spending which takes up huge part of its national budget. Under Sudan’s power sharing agreement which was reached between the military and the pro-democracy movement following the removal of Omar al-Bashir in April 2019, the peace initiative was part of the power-sharing deal and the transitional government has six months to make peace with the rebel groups. Last month, some rebel groups signed a draft agreement which stated a roadmap for the talks, trust-building measures and an extension of a cease-fire which is already in place. Sudanese government has dropped death sentences against eight rebel leaders and freed many prisoners of war.
